While they may cause temporary annoyance, cicadas are harmless to trees and humans, providing an essential food source for predators and presenting a unique opportunity for pest control professionals to engage with customers.

A study published in Pest Management Science explores the use of rodenticide bait stations by commensal rodents at the urban-wildland interface. Funded by the Pest Management Foundation, the research indicates that native rodents rarely access bait stations, primarily used by roof rats. Management recommendations are provided to minimize non-target exposures while controlling pest populations.

Eastern Subterranean termites, significant pests in North America, exhibit behaviors to manage dead nestmates, crucial for colony health. They utilize cannibalism and burial to recycle nutrients and prevent disease. Research shows workers respond to chemical cues upon death, indicating the importance of understanding these behaviors for potential pest control strategies.
