NPMA Bright Futures Scholarship

The application period is now closed. Scholarship recipients will be notified in mid-January.

Donor: National Pest Management Association

Award Amount: One (1) award per year totaling $1,000

The National Pest Management Association proudly announces the establishment of the NPMA Bright Futures Scholarship, a prestigious $1,000 per-year award dedicated to honoring all past presidents of the association. The NPMA Bright Futures Scholarship serves to inspire innovation and excellence in the industry by supporting the next generation of pest management professionals. Through this scholarship, NPMA hopes to carry on the legacy of all past presidents through fostering talent and driving progress in the pest management industry. 

Scholarship Criteria

  • Student graduating from a high school entering college or trade school, or a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate college student majoring in any field.
  • Full-time student in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Priority given to those whose families serve in the pest control industry.
  • Recipients must commit to writing a letter of appreciation outlining how the scholarship has helped them in their academic endeavors.

Application Submission Requirements

  • Resume or curriculum vita.
  • Current unofficial academic transcript.
  • A one-page (minimum) essay describing applicant’s professional goals and aspirations and how he/she plans to use their studies to contribute to a field in urban pest management.
  • At least one (1) letter of recommendation from the applicant’s teacher or counselor addressing the applicant’s progress in studies, and his or her work ethic.
  • Other supporting documents (research papers and proposals, faculty research participation, related industry internship participation, fellowship projects, industry work experience, etc.) can also be submitted.

Allison Lopina

University of Kentucky

Allison Lopina is a master’s student at the University of Kentucky. She completed her bachelor’s in entomology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At the DeVries Urban Entomology Lab, her research focuses on German cockroach foraging activity and aggregation patterns. She hopes for her work to contribute to the greater good of the urban pest management industry, as her research aims to guide optimal bait placement and practices. Allison is passionate about meeting new people and making connections; she often volunteers at extension events where she can interact with the public and share her love for entomology!
