Utilize Rodent Awareness Week to Educate Consumers Ahead of Winter
The Professional Pest Management Alliance is mobilizing the industry to raise awareness of fall rodent risks and reinforce the value of professional pest control this season
FAIRFAX, Va. – As fall weather pushes rodents indoors, the Professional Pest Management Alliance is encouraging companies nationwide to use Rodent Awareness Week, taking place October 18-24, 2026, to educate consumers about the risks rodents carry and how they can be prevented.
According to a National Pest Management Association (NPMA) survey conducted online by the Harris Poll, only 40% of Americans are taking preventive measures to keep rodents out of their homes. Pest management professionals have a clear opening to close the knowledge gap, share practical guidance and demonstrate why proactive, professional protection matters.
“Rodent Awareness Week shows what our industry can accomplish through a shared commitment to education,” said Jim Fredericks, executive director of the Alliance. “We can turn awareness into action by sharing consistent prevention guidance that helps consumers understand what’s at stake and know when it’s time to call in a qualified professional.”
Throughout the week, the Alliance is encouraging pest management companies to take the following steps:
- Share seasonal rodent content, warning signs and prevention tips through written content and social media using #RodentAwarenessWeek.
- Amplify the industry’s shared voice by engaging with and reposting content from @PestWorld on Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube, and @PestWorldOfficial on Instagram. · Point consumers to project microsites like Out of Sight, What Grows There? and Rodents Revealed for educational videos and articles. · Mainframe subscribers can explore the 2026 Rodent Awareness Week toolkit, which includes a customizable press release, social posts, infographics, images, videos and other marketing materials.
