Take Action
In January 2011 the U.S. EPA proposed rulemaking canceling food tolerances for sulfuryl fluoride. Their proposal is in response to activist group litigation alleging that sulfuryl fluoride food tolerances are not permissible because overall exposure to fluoride already exceeds the acceptable level and a significant shift in the federal government's long-standing policy regarding fluoride. Common roots of exposure to fluoride include food, drinking water and toothpaste and the federal government recently issued a report stating that it now believes some subpopulations are being exposed to excessive levels of fluoride in their diet.
NPMA is working with member companies and affected sectors such as milling food processing and cocoa to preserve the food uses of sulfuryl fluoride.
EPA granted NPMA's request to extend the deadline for submitting comments on the proposal to July 5, 2011. To take action, click on the link on the right and then click on the "Submit a Comment" link on the upper right-hand of the page.
