NPMA Announces Tami Burkel as Winner of the PWIPM Annual Scholarship
PMP of Company Owned and Operated by Women
September 25, 2007 - The National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA) affiliate organization Professional Women in Pest Management (PWIPM), is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2007 PWIPM Scholarship, Tami Burkel, owner of Valley Termite & Pest Control in Cincinnati, Ohio. The PWIPM Scholarship is awarded annually to at least one female interested in advancing or securing a career in pest management.
Ms. Burkel understands the mission of PWIPM and its goal of strengthening the forces and network of women in the pest management industry. As the winner of the annual scholarship, Tami will receive funding to further her career and business, as well as a trip to PestWorld 2007 in Orlando, Florida where she will be formally presented with this award at the PWIPM Wine & Cheese Reception on October 18.
As the daughter of a pest management professional and small business owner, Tami was born into the pest management industry. After graduating from college, she joined her parents to manage the family business. Now as the company’s owner 13 years later, Tami works alongside her mother and together they face the challenges of running a business wholly-owned and operated by women.
PWIPM provides a place for women in the pest management industry to network and learn from their peers, and has taken the initiative to define its role and the value of women serving in the industry. Now grown to almost 300 members, PWIPM continues to spread its mission of attracting, developing and supporting women through educational programs, resources and peer networking at the national and local level.
At PestWorld 2007, PWIPM will sponsor two learning opportunities for all attendees as well as raise funds for the scholarship program so that they can continue to reward women, like Tami Burkel, for their efforts to grow within the pest management industry. For information about PWIPM and their presence at PestWorld 2007, visit www.npmapestworld.org/pwipm or call 703.352.6762. Tami Burkel and PWIPM are featured in the October issue of PestWorld, NPMA’s bi-monthly, members only newsletter.
