The Pest Management Foundation is a charitable organization affiliated with the National Pest
Management Association, the industry's only national trade group.
The Foundation has been in existence for more than 30 years and includes funds for three industry
pioneers: Mr. Bill Buettner, Dr. Phil Spear, and Dr. Paul Sarazen, the founder of Temp-Vent
Corporation. Over the last three decades, the Foundation has funded valuable research that has
greatly benefited the pest management industry.
Research funded by the Foundation include research by the University of Kentucky and Spokane Fall Community College on the
effectiveness of residential mosquito control, and methods of managing the black widow and hobo
spiders. The Foundation also
funded a study of insecticide discoloration of nylon carpet products, and a 1998 research report
on subterranean termite biology by Dr. Brian Forschler of the University of Georgia and Dr.
Barbara Thorne of the University of Maryland. The Foundation is funding pending
research by the World Health Organization on the impact of urban pests and Dr. Bobby Corrigan
on the prevalence of an emerging rodent-borne virus in house mice.
In conjunction with past PestWorld conventions, the Foundation has sponsored Pest Management
Career Fairs. These events have enabled pest management professionals, product manufacturers
and distributors to meet, interact with and discuss future career possibilities with college
students and other job seekers. Most importantly, these events have resulted in pest management
professional hiring highly knowledgeable, already qualified employees. Without the Foundation,
the Career Fairs would never have taken place.
